4. In the search bar, type “Watching TV News: How to be a Smarter Viewer.  Hit enter.  This should bring up the course.

4a. If that does not work, you can search for the course the long way by looking at the gray “Browse Courses By” box.  Select “Self Directed Courses” and then select “Broadcast”.  The course should be the last one listed.

5. Launch the course.  Take the entire thing.  It is three hours, but you can leave and come back to it at any point.  It does not have to be done in one sitting.

6. Take the quiz on this site by the appropriate date.  The quiz will be posted both here and on the assignments page.  The quiz needs to be emailed to me by Midnight on Friday, Feb 5th.  Remember, if it’s not to me by midnight, you will receive a 0.

Buying an audio recorder

January 28, 2010 at 5:52 pm

Ready to buy an audio recorder?  Here are several options for you that fall in different budget ranges.  Realize that you will continue to use an audio recorder throughout your career, so buying a higher end one will be a good investment.

I recommend the Olympus - the VN5200-PC is a good one.  Whatever you buy, it MUST have the following:

- Mic Jack

- Headphone Jack

-  A USB output for transferring the audio files to a computer for editing

If it doesn’t have these three things, then do not buy it.

If you have questions, let me know!

Welcome to the Site

Welcome to Lauren’s Classroom.  This is a quick overview that should help you navigate around the site.

Across the top you will see several tabs.  These tabs will be where you will find what you need for this class.

1. Home - brings you to this page.  I use this blog primarily for announcements, updates, interesting tidbits of news that I think are relevant to the course, and as a way of letting you know if anything has changed.

2. Professor - a brief biography of me and my background.

3. Class - gives you a brief overview of the class, and what you are expected to learn from it.

4. Calendars - the all important syllabus.  Please make sure you check it often, as I do reserve the right to change it at any time.  Since it is posted online, you have no excuse for not having the most up-to-date version.

5. Assignments - an explanation of the assignment policies (including my policies on late assignments and how they are to be turned in) as well as an explanation of each assignment.

6. Notes - I usually use this section to post mid-term and final grades so that you can check your progress.

7. Handouts - any handouts that I give in class will also be available here.

8. Policies - these are the policies with which I will run class by.  It includes information about how I’ll grade, participation, absences, excuses, and policies set forth by the University.  Make sure you read this section VERY carefully.

If you have any questions at any time, please do not hesitate to contact me.  I’d rather you ask me what you may think is a stupid question than be wrong and get penalized for it.
